Skin of Glass

Documentary by Denise Zmekhol

2023

Skin of Glass, directed by Denise Zmekhol, is a poignant documentary that won an award at the Barcelona International Architecture Film Festival and was a finalist at the Venice Festival. The film, which also won an Audience Award, follows Zmekhol as she explores the Pele de Vidro, her father’s architectural work that has become a refuge for homeless families in São Paulo. During filming, the building collapses, intensifying the tragedy. Zmekhol interacts with the inhabitants, revealing a story of resilience.

By blending personal the film reflects the tumultuous evolution of Brazil, its economic decline and contemporary social movements. Philippe Rizzotti developed the Momento Monumento project there, transforming the tower into a social and cultural laboratory for the Year of France in Brazil (2009), in collaboration with Coloco and Brazilian architect Marcos Da Silva. Technically brilliant, Skin of Glass captivates with its intimate story, striking images and moving soundtrack.

Digital Atlas of post-carbon architecture

May 2023

The ” Digitalisation of heritage and architecture ” call for projects, part of the ” Acceleration strategy for innovation “, is a natural extension of the research project ” L’Empreinte d’un habitat – construire léger et décarboné ” presented and published by the Pavillon de l’Arsenal in 2021. This study constitutes an initial collection of 33 digital duplicates of residential buildings that we

now wish to complete and make accessible to as many people as possible via the creation of a digital platform. The aim is to build up a digital documentary collection to improve understanding and accelerate the diffusion of a post-carbon architectural culture, which is necessary to support and transform all construction trades.

It’s About Time – IABR

10e Biennale d'Architecture de Rotterdam

22 September - 13 November 2022

IABR 2022 addresses the urgent need to tackle climate change and other environmental and social challenges by highlighting the role of time and speed in architecture. The biennale proposes three strategic approaches for designers: the Accelerator, using smart technology efficiently; the Activist, collaborating with local communities on small-scale

projects; and the Ancestor, considering the long-term impact of design choices. The showcased projects are ambitious, rooted in extensive research, and developed with local actors to address socio-ecological issues. PRA is honored to have been invited to exposed the research “Housing Footprint” alongside visionary conceptors of tomorrow’s world.
