Architecture without building

2011   S03

“The exhibits are not just objects but ideas, and the history of those ideas. To continue these ideas, it’s up to you” Yona Friedman. Following the invitation of Hajanlka Somogyi at a conference in Budapest we were invited to imagine a series of original installations that were created in close collaboration with the Hungarian architect Yona Friedman as part of the retrospective exhibition devoted to his work and ideas. All of the originals collected have been grouped together in a 50m2 room, while the other 950m2 are occupied by manuals, hand reproductions and unpublished installations. It is before a free journey through scales and time between a series of fundamental notions, the world, Europe and the idea of the City-Continent, the Space City, The Inhabited Bridges, Architectural Syntax, Furniture-plus, Ecology and Cultural Facilities, while inviting the visitor to participate actively through the creation of scale models and diverse experiences. A set of videos also accompanies the public by detailing the architect’s proposals.
