Station Extra-territoriale

2005   T03

In search of the 4th dimension, the theme of the Eme3 2005 festival, the collective is investing a hollow tooth 6 to 300 meters wide in the Agbar Tower, a new monument in Barcelona designed by the architect Jean Nouvel. Exyzt sent a multidisciplinary team of spacemen to the Poble Nou district to transform this space into a launch pad for the Tower’s takeoff. The Extra Territorial Station is a self-built and self-managed structure, a community building that can house and accommodate about thirty people. Requiring 23 tons of material and 4 days of assembly, the experimental station rises over 8 floors. It includes beds, a panoramic terrace and the graphic, sound and culinary experimentation laboratories. On Saturday, October 22 at midnight, the Tower takes off! This event is an audiovisual and pyrotechnic performance. A video is projected on the 6 meter high screen façade of the Extra-Territorial Station. Sunday sees the frantic rhythm of the week calm down, giving way to an atmosphere of a bal-musette, the investment of public space. The astro-artists take to the streets. An architectural aperitif is organized. On the program, the guided tour of the building, an Alsatian tapas service. It is an opportunity to take the time to explain the project to passers-by, to provide electricity to the neighboring squat, to talk with the workers of the surrounding construction sites : Landing! The building leaves traces of its passage. The resulting section of this occupation is graphically marked and annotated on the gables. The station is dismantled in one day. One more story in a place in the making.
